Next project up is a junior ADU update. This little unit has crushed in terms of ROI for this family. However, with the recent rains it’s brought to light a moisture issue. We’re addressing while it’s still just an issue and not a major problem. Great news is we’ve got a good plan to get the water away from the space with cost effective easy tasks such as gutters and site drain. Now I can waterproof the back and add new siding. This and a couple other updates will get it back up and running (and renting out) shortly!

I am discussing laying out an IKEA kitchen in the current ADU that I am building.

We’ve hit drywall stage on the current ADU build, and it’s always one of my favorite parts — the moment it stops feeling like a job site and starts looking like a home. I also wanted to share a quick bit of history on drywall itself. It was first introduced over a century ago as an alternative to plaster but didn’t really catch on until after World War II, when builders needed a faster way to finish homes. Funny how something so ordinary ended up completely reshaping how we build.

The old kitchen is out and demo is done! Plumbing is up next before we start building the new layout. It’s always exciting to see the space start to transform — one step closer to the finished kitchen.
